Yakshagana Mukhavarnike

Yakshagana face painting is a traditional art form. Artists do this make up which can take several hours to complete, before every performance. The elaborate makeup has its own significance in depicting the nuances of the character. Sanchi Foundation ® did a documentation of some of the most prevalent face paintings done by artists presently.

The program also witnessed some of the legendary performers of our times. They too recorded their views on the face painting and contributed to the knowledge bank through our documentation.

The organization was done by Yakshagana Kalaranga Udupi. Documentation was done by Sanchi Foundation ®. The documentation was released online under Creative Commons licensing for the public use.
